Pregnancy Related Blood Tests

 

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) + scan 


NIPT analyses cell-free DNA from a maternal blood sample (mixture of fetal and maternal DNA) to screen for common chromosomal conditions including trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome)

Also included if required;

Fetal sex (also available for twins)

Monosomy X -also called Turners Syndrome, a condition where a female is missing an X chromosome and as a result may have heart endocrine and learning problems.

Sex Chromosome Aneuploidy - Differences in the number of X and Y chromosomes which can result in certain learning and/or behavioural challenges.

10 weeks – term

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) + scan +22q11 deletion

In addition to screening for the conditions listed above you may want to consider screening for the DiGeorge Syndrome - a condition caused by a small missing piece (deletion) of chromosome 22, which can result in hear, kidney, learning and growth problems.

Nuchal Translucency (NT) scan + bloods
 

A nuchal translucency scan is combined with the mother’s age and results of a blood test showing the mother’s pregnancy hormone levels to provide a ‘combined risk’ for Down syndrome, or other chromosomal or inherited conditions in the foetus.
11-14 weeks
